As the Chief Technical Officer (CTO) at Rakuten Medical, Carlos oversees a comprehensive portfolio of critical functions that drive the company’s cutting-edge therapeutic technologies. His leadership spans discovery research, process development, technology transfer, clinical and commercial manufacturing, supply chain management, quality assurance, and CMC regulatory affairs. Carlos also plays a pivotal role in guiding the company’s clinical, medical, and regulatory functions. His expertise and vision have been instrumental in advancing Rakuten Medical’s innovative technologies from concept to commercialization, with the potential to establish a new Standard of Care in cancer treatment.
Carlos also serves as the U.S. Divisional Officer, where he manages all aspects of Rakuten Medical’s operations in the United States. His strategic oversight ensures seamless integration of global and regional initiatives, fostering growth and operational excellence.
Carlos has over 20 years bio pharma experience in ADC, biologics and small molecules technologies. Carlos's background is in protein biochemistry, focused on structure biology with M.S. in Biochemistry and post-graduate work at the University of California, Irvine. Carlos has led research and development functions in small and large pharmaceutical companies. He has served as CMC lead for early and late-stage programs for Gilead, Pfizer, Cytokinetics, Arresto Therapeutics (acquired by Gilead) and Rinat Neurosciences (acquired by Pfizer).
