As President of Rakuten Medical, Minami is driving innovation under the company’s mission to conquer cancer, guided also by his personal mission to make society better. Minami and the Rakuten Medical team are highly dedicated to discovering, developing, manufacturing and delivering photoimmunotherapy—an innovative drug-device combination therapy based on the Alluminox® platform—to patients worldwide.

Since joining Rakuten Medical in 2017, Minami has demonstrated outstanding leadership and strategic acumen. He has played a pivotal role in establishing a scalable business model in commercial settings, building robust supply chains, advancing drug & device pipeline development, and leading constructive engagement with governmental and regulatory authorities. These efforts have been instrumental in driving the company’s business growth and expanding patient access to its therapies, both commercially in Japan and globally through clinical trials. His ability to identify the needs of patients and the medical community and align them with technological advancements has significantly contributed to Rakuten Medical's innovation and global impact.

Before joining Rakuten Medical, Minami established his business and public policy expertise at McKinsey & Company in Tokyo and Johannesburg and later served in government as Chief of Staff to the Minister of Health, Labor and Welfare and in the Prime Minister's Office of Japan.

Minami earned a Master of Public Policy (MPP) from the Graduate School of Public Policy at the University of Tokyo and also studied at Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy in Singapore.
