About Alluminox™ Platform
The Alluminox™ platform is a name of an investigational treatment platform based on a cancer therapy called photoimmunotherapy, which was developed by Dr. Hisataka Kobayashi and team from the National Cancer Institute in the United States. Rakuten Medical is currently developing the Alluminox™ platform as a technology consisting of an investigational drug, device and other related components.
The drug component of the platform consists of a targeting moiety conjugated with one or more dyes leading to selective cell surface binding. The device component consists of a light source that locally illuminates the targeted cells with non-thermal light to transiently activates the drug.
*Rakuten Medical’s therapies based on Alluminox™ platform are investigational outside of Japan.
Description of treatment under Alluminox™ Platform
What can the Alluminox™ platform bring forth?
Rakuten Medical is studying potential therapies using Alluminox™ technologies for cancer. Research is currently underway utilizing the Alluminox™ platform to explore the stimulation of the immune system against cells by rapid and selective cell necrosis, resulting not only in a local effect but a systemic one.
